Dear students

We wanted all students to know about our recent Ofsted inspection and also to help you understand what we want to do next in order to reach a higher level.  The inspection was positive and it is clear that Monoux is now a very different and higher achieving college. In the feedback there were close to 40 key strengths covering:

  • Students’ confidence
  • How we support you
  • Safety
  • Careers guidance
  • How you develop skills and make progress
  • Achievement rates
  • Monoux Passport
  • Leadership and management

We told the inspectors that we need yet to improve further and they agreed.  The college is well-led and has a solid trend of improvement, but we need to for example ensure that in every lesson you make good progress.  We will continue working as staff to be consistent in this area.

But also, we want your approaches and attitudes to studying to improve.  Behaviour, safety and positivity in the college have all improved a great deal so now we want to build on this:

  • To stop unnecessary disruption in lessons, anybody who is more than 10 minutes late will not be allowed into class unless there are special circumstances.
  • To create a better learning atmosphere, we will be asking all students to take off outdoor gear and put bags, phones, earphones etc. away.
  • To raise student performance, we will expect you to bring organised subject folders, together with pens and other equipment.

We expect the best for you and from you.  We believe that these requirements will make you more productive at college and more engaged.

We look forward to supporting you through this term!  If you want to talk to me about anything raised in this message, please do so.

Dave Vasse, on behalf of all the staff at Monoux.
